    Planes and Airport

    China Business Program Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH), located in Xiaoshan District, is about 27 kilometers (about 16.8 miles) away from the downtown area of Hangzhou City.

    Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport is considered a Garden Airport due to its verdant setting and floral gardens and is one of the most important territorial airports in China.

    Covering an area of about 180 acres, the airport has a 3,600 meter (about 3,937 yards) airstrip, which can meet the take-off and landing requirements of planes from B747 to B400. The airport has 36 ticket management counters, amongst which 12 are for international ticket service. There are 2,900 seats in the Waiting Hall, VIP Lounges and First Class Lounges, all featuring modern designs and aimed to make passengers' journey comfortable and enjoyable.

    Hangzhou currently attracts 126 airlines that offer flights to 13 International destinations, 44 Chinese cities and two regions. It has domestic flight connections with major Chinese cities, including Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xian, and Guangzhou and international connections with Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul, Tokyo, and Osaka.

    Train

    There are more than 30 cities with direct rail lines connections to Hangzhou. The main train station at Jiancheng Road is almost in the middle of the city. National arterial railways connect Hangzhou with cities all around China.

    Trains from New Train Station or East Train Station reach more than 20 cities directly, including Beijing (1650 kilometers), Shanghai (200 kilometers), and Xian (1550 kilometers) and so on.

    Tourists are encouraged to book soft sleeper tickets for long distance trips and soft seat tickets for travel to nearby cities such as Ningbo (170 kilometers), and Shanghai. There are altogether several air-conditioning tourist trains shuttling between Hangzhou and Shanghai with a whole distance of about 180 kilometers (112 miles). Many travel agencies and hotels book train tickets.

    City to City Bus

    There are four big shuttle bus stations in Hangzhou including East Bus Station, South Bus Station, West Bus Station, and North Bus Station.

    The convenient highway network can lead to Qingdao in Shandong Province to the north, Shenzhen in Guangdong Province to the south, Yichang in Hubei Province to the West, and Zhoushan to the East. Bus tickets are sold in the four bus stations:

    Boat

    For an enjoyable outing, take a boat in the evening from Hangzhou to Suzhou, Wuxi, and Zhouzhuang reaching the destination next morning. The trip is a perfect way to appreciate the local flavor in the area south of the Yangtze River and the rich culture of the Grand Canal. The boat fare from Hangzhou to Suzhou is about RMB100.

    Getting Around Hangzhou

    Public Buses

    Public transportation is very convenient in Hangzhou. Buses, minibuses and tourist routes reach all sections of the city. Ticket price ranges from RMB1 to 3.

    It would be a good idea to bring enough small changes for the fare along the trip. Otherwise big notes may not get changed since almost all of the buses do not have conductors.


    Taxi

    Metered taxis are easy to get in Hangzhou. Normally the taxi rate is RMB10 per the first three kilometers (1.9 miles). Hangzhou cabs rank among the top in China's big cities for vehicle model and service. Passat, Citroen Picasso, Bor, and Sonata are the primary brands.

    Bicycles

    Lots of bicycles are for rent around the West Lake. The rental is about RMB 5 to 15 per hour.


    West Lake Pleasure Boat

    A very pleasant way to spend time to view to scenic spots of the West Lake is to take a boat ride.

    • Chartered Boat: The rental is approximately RMB80 per hour.


    • Electric Boat: RMB35 for the ordinary boat, RMB45 per person.


    • Self-Boating: A boat for rent with six seats for RMB20 for two hours.
