Putonghua and China Business Program Study Components |
The Putonghua and China Business Program is comprised of two main study components:
Putonghua Class Component
Participants can choose from two different types of Putonghua Classes:
Regular Putonghua |
These language classes focus on everyday spoken Chinese and incorporate all aspects of the Chinese language including, phonetics, listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar. |
Business Putonghua |
These language classes focus more on Chinese business language and are intended for students who have already learnt the basics of Chinese phonetics and who know at least 800 Chinese characters / expressions. |

Students are first placed according to the Chinese language proficiency level they indicate on the application form. During the morning of your first class day, you will be tested in three areas: grammar, comprehension, and fluency. Based on the test results, you will be place d in a class best suited to your current comprehension and fluency level. The class will be both comfortable and challenging.

China Business Component
The China Business component offers a practical and insightful examination into China's dynamic business structure, including its current and historical economic, political, legal, social and cultural environments.
Conducted in English, the China Business component is a short intensive course comprised of lectures, seminars, joint venture presentations and onsite study visits.
- Lectures on Chinese business practices and issues are given by business professors from reputable universities in China;
- Seminars are given by senior representatives from state-owned, foreign, joint venture, and private local companies who present views on their area of expertise;
- Joint Venture Presentations offers business perspectives from both the expatriate and Chinese management personnel coming from within the same organization;
- Onsite Study Visits to a variety of foreign and local companies in China offer insights into Chinese business operations.

Putonghua and China Business Programs Length |
Below details the type and length of the programs available. The China Business Component is a short intensive course designed to compliment the Putonghua language classes.
Taught in English, the China Business component runs for:
4 weeks for participants registered in 4, 5, 6 weeks Putonghua language programs
8 weeks for participants registered in 8,12, semester and academic year Putonghua language programs

1) Regular Putonghua and China Business
The aim of this program is to help the students improve their proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, as well as, acquire a comprehensive understanding of China's culture and business environment through business seminars, lectures, and onsite visits to companies and historical sites in China. |

2) Business Putonghua and China Business (For Advanced Students with at least 800 Chinese characters / expressions)
This program is intended for those participants who already have a firm grasp of basic Putonghua, with comprehension of at least 800 Chinese characters / expressions. In addition to providing an overview of China's culture and business environment through business seminars, lectures and onsite visits to companies and historical sites in China, t he curriculum also aims at improving students' spoken and listening proficiency in business Putonghua, as well as their Chinese business writing and newspaper reading skills. |
