    Visa Application Procedure

Visas are issued according to the purpose of visit:

  • Students studying in China for less than 6 months require an F visa
  • Students studying in China for more than 6 months require an X visa, as well as a physical examination. Click here for more information on physical examination
What You Need to Do and What You Need to Bring

Go to the Chinese embassy or consulate in your home country and apply for a visa to enter the People's Republic of China. You must have the following items with you:

  1. Visa application form (obtained from the Chinese embassy or consulate)
  2. "JW201" or "JW202" form issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education ( Once full program fees are paid and enrollment completed, PRC Study will send this form to you)
  3. Enrollment or Invitation letter from the receiving university in China ( Once full program fees are paid and enrollment completed, PRC Study will send this letter to you.)
  4. Valid passport or travel document in lieu of passport
  5. Two recent passport photo (2x2 inch full-faced headshot)
  6. Physical examination records (for X Visa applicants only)
  7. Visa application fee

Important Points to Keep in Mind
  1. Regular Formalities - In addition to providing the above-mentioned documents, an applicant is also required to answer questions and go through the regular formalities.
  2. Application Form - Each item on the application form must be completed. Your Chinese name must be stated if you have one, otherwise the application will be invalid.
  3. Application Time - It is advised that you apply for your visa as early as possible as the application process may take more than one month, depending on where you apply.
  4. Payment Method - Application fee for the Chinese embassy or consulate must be paid by cash, money order or bank cheque. Company or personal cheques are not accepted.
  5. By Mail - If application is made by mail or through delivery agencies, a pre-paid self-addressed return envelope must be enclosed along with all the required documents and fees.
  6. Pick-up in Person - If you are to collect your passport and visa in person, you must bring back and show the pink-coloured pick up receipt.

The overseas Chinese visa authorities are Chinese embassies, consulates, visa offices, the consular department of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in HKSAR, and other agencies abroad authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.

If a foreigner intends to enter into, exit from or transit through the Chinese territory, he shall apply to the above-mentioned Chinese visa authorities for a Chinese visa. For further information, please consult the nearest Chinese visa authorities.
