Xiamen Climate

The tourist oriented coastal city Xiamen appeals strongly to foreign tourists largely due to its climate. Located in the subtropical zone, the city receives abundant sunshine, a total of 2,276 hours annually, which is a big blessing for those planning to go sunbathing on the beach.

Xiamen has a subtropical monsoon climate; the weather is mild and pleasant most of the year. The whole year round is good time to visit Xiamen except that typhoons influence the weather four to five times during the months from July to September.

The annual average temperature in Xiamen is 21 degrees Celsius and the maximum is 38.4 degrees and minimum is 2 degrees.The average temperature during summer is 26 degrees.The annual rainfall averages 1,100 mm, and strong northeastern winds prevail. The rainfall abounds mainly in the months from May to August.

    • Spring in Xiamen experiences subtropical marine weather and feels as if a sort of Spring has been stretched along 12 months. The relatively high humidity levels guarantee a lush and exotic vegetation all around Xiamen.
    • Summer in Xiamen is free from extreme heat, although thin clothes are needed during the the hottest month, which is generally in July.
    • Fall in Xiamen are mild and nice. The fantastic weather enables the visitors and locals to engage in outdoor activities from golfing to visiting all beautiful parks and gardens in and around town.
    • Winter in Xiamen is mild, requiring only sweaters or light coats even during the cold month of January. The coldest month, February, never gets below 10 degrees C.
