Xiamen Sports
There are many international five-star hotels equipped with
recreational facilities. However, if you want to get the Xiamen
experience take a walk or jog outside in the glorious Xiamen
weather. Use caution in July, because it is the hottest month
of the year. Otherwise, you can try your hand at bowling, archery,
kite flying, martial arts in Xiamen. See below for a sampling
of places you can visit for sports and recreation in Xiamen.
Xiamen Water Park
Even though Xiamen prides itself on its wealth of pristine beaches,
it still offers a salt water alternative that has been known
to cause even sound-minded adults to display behavior that borders
on "frolicking." Massive waterslides, some of which
that oddly resemble the large intestine, zip bathers into huge
pristine pools. There is also a wading area for kids, a makeshift
beach, and even lap areas for serious swimmers. Lifeguards assure
customer safety. If you curse crowds, it is best to avoid this
fun-center during the height of summer.

Drum Mountain
Despite the two-hour drive to this jutting spectacle of temples
and mountain scenery it is worth every "how much longer" admonishment.
Secluded trails vein the park, but the main paved path leads
to the biggest attractions, including the Surging Spring Temple.
Founded in 908 the temple shelters more than 10,000 Buddhist
sutras. Everyday at 4 pm resident monks begin their chants,
which the public is welcomed to observe. Waterfalls, views,
and plenty of Buddhist inscribed stones and grottoes are some
of the other wonders along the trail.

Qingyuan Mountain
Mountain views replace Xiamen's beaches and waves at this wildly
scenic mountain park. Located just under an hour northeast of
Xiamen on the tree-thick outskirts of Quanzhou, hiking trails
fan the park providing eye-stretching views of waterfalls, caves,
and of Quanzhou below. The park, fortunately, has yet to be
stained with development helping to stem tourist numbers and
making it easy to find solitude. Stone inscriptions, statues,
temples, and even Islamic tombs speck the trails and provide
detailed understanding to the area's former religious significance.

Kai Kou Xiamen Golf
Club
Designed by the Shark, Greg Norman, this wandering course infused
Xiamen with instant credibility as a golf destination area when
it opened in 1994. The course covers 7,274 yards, rewarding
those who can rocket the ball off the tee box. Massive sand
traps, a Norman designed course trademark, protect every green
and have reportedly been the cause of many frustrated vows to
pursue bowling instead. Weekend tee times can be reserved a
week ahead. The course also offers a driving range and a full-scale
restaurant.

or Saint Andrews, but this course has helped put it on the international
golf map. The United States Golf Association selected it as
one of the Finest 100 Golf Clubs in the World, and every year
it now hosts the Orient Masters Tournament. Water hazards are
many, making it imperative that you stay on the fairways of this
7,074 yard course. Weekend tee times can be made seven days
in advance; weekdays only one day in advance.
