Planes & Airport

The Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport has been in operation since August 5, 2004. The airport is located between Renhe Town of Baiyun District and Xinhua Town of Huadu District.

Flights from the Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport connect Guangzhou with more than 70 domestic cities and over 20 international cities. Direct international flights are to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Melbourne, Bangkok, Osaka and Hong Kong. Passengers can fly to Yangon, Vientiane, Angkor, Phuket without changing plane. Passengers can look up the specific scheduled flights and reserve tickets on the computer sales system. Getting the tickets in advance is also feasible.

Train

There are two train stations in Guangzhou: The Guangzhou Railway Station and the Guangzhou East Railway Station.

The railway Line is the main transportation trunk line between south and north China linking Beijing and Shenyang, Beijing and Chengde, Beijing and Baotou, Shijiazhuang and Taiyuan, Shijiazhuang and Dezhou, Lianyungang and Lanzhou, Hunan and Yunnan, Hunan and Guilin. In addition, railway lines connecting Guangzhou to Maoming and Guangzhou to Shantou connect Guangzhou east and west. You can also take the direct train to Kowloon of Hong Kong.

City to City Bus

Expressways have been built linking various cities and in the downtown area of Guangzhou, viaducts, tunnels under the river and other roads have been constructed. A long-distance bus station provides buses from Guangzhou to neighboring areas and a direct bus from Guangzhou to Hong Kong.

Guangzhou offers visitors a wide variety of choices for getting around. Guangzhou has very convenient transportation with public buses, taxi, trams, special bus lines, and subway lines. Even rentable bikes are available on the road.

Taxi

Taxi drivers in Guangzhou are fairly honest; it would be a good idea to write out destinations in Chinese or take a map in case some taxi drivers do not speak English. The taxi flag down rate is RMB 7 for the first 2.3 kilometers, and RMB 2.6 for succeeding kilometers. Sometimes the rate for succeeding kilometers varies from operator to operator.

Public Buses

The public bus in Guangzhou charges RMB 1 - RMB 2 and many buses are offered to reach every corner of the city. The public buses generally run from 6 am to 10 pm.

Ferry

The Guangzhou water transport is made up of Suigang Passenger Port, Zhoutouzui Passenger Port, Zengcheng Xintang Passenger Port, Panyu Lianhuashan and Nansha Passenger Port, all operating direct ships to Hong Kong. In addition, Dashatou Passenger Port and Xidi Passenger Port run ships to other areas.

On April 10, 2007, six water buses began to run along the channel of the Pearl River in Guangzhou, supplying residents and tourists with a more convenient transport service. There are four ports along the line - Zhongda Passenger Port, Tianzi Passenger Port, Xidi Passenger Port and Fangcun Passenger Port. The whole journey only takes 25 minutes. The ticket is RMB 1 to RMB 2.

Subway

To better serve 7 million local inhabitants and increasing travelers in the capital of the Guangdong Province, a subway network construction was started in 1993. Coins are convenient for people to buy tokens through the TVM (Ticket Vending Machine). Banknotes are also acceptable.

Subway Line 1 has been in operation since 1999. It runs from Xilang in the Fangcun District in southwest Guangzhou to the East Railway Station. It has a total length of 18.5 kilometers with 16 stations. Apart from Kengkou and Xilang, all stations are underground. The metro runs at an average speed of 36 kilometers per hour. A trip along the entire route takes 32 minutes. Ticket prices range from RMB 2 to RMB 5.

Subway Line 2 runs from Sanyuanli in the Baiyun District to Wanshengwei in the Haizhu District. It has a total length of 23.3 kilometers with 20 stations, 17 underground. The ticket prices vary from RMB 2 to RMB 6.

Subway Line 3 runs from the East Railway Station to Panyu Square; its branch runs from Tianhe Bus Station to West Tiyu Road. The ticket prices range from RMB 2 to RMB 8.

Subway Line 4 runs from Wanshengwei to Huangge including the Daxue Cheng (University Town) Special Section which has only five stops from Wanshengwei to Xinzao. The ticket prices range from RMB 2 to RMB 8.
